The Celebrations are well underway at Ewen Fields
as Hyde FC have been crowned Champions of the Blue
Square Bet North. The Tigers recorded a
comprehensive 4-1 victory over Boston United at Ewen
Fields this afternoon with David Poole, Danny
Broadbent, Scott Spencer and Shelton Payne on the
scoresheet. Nearest rivals Guiseley went down to a
1-0 home defeat against Bishops Stortford which
sealed the Championship for Hyde with 1 game still
to play.
The unprecedented success for Hyde comes in
manager Gary Lowe's first season in Charge at Ewen
Fields and will see Hyde compete on the National
stage next season in the Blue Square Bet Premier
League.
Stalybridge Celtic kept their slim playoff hopes
alive with a 2-1 victory at Gloucester City. Jack
Rea and Dennis Sheriff the scorers for Stalybridge.
Both players with their first first-team goals for
Celtic. Gloucester were reduced to ten-men late in
the match after Matt Lock was sent off for a two
footed tackle on Chris Lynch.
Droylsden took the lead after 14 minutes with a
Dale Johnson goal in their match away at play-off
contenders FC Halifax Town but couldn't hold on to
the lead and fell to a 2-1 defeat. The victory for
Halifax moves them up to 3rd in the
table.
Ashton United had a disappointing end to their
season as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat to relegated
Mickleover Sports at Hurst Cross. The Robins finish
the season in 12th place in the Evo-Stik
Premier League.
First Division North Runners-up Curzon Ashton go
into Mondays Play-off Semi-Final at home to Garforth
Town on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Prescot Cables.
Curzon led 1-0 at the break through a goal from Lee
Blackshaw but conceded 3 goals in the second half to
slip to defeat.
Mossley ended their League campaign on a high
note after an emphatic 6-1 victory at Harrogate
Railway Athletic, a result which relegated the
hosts. Ben Richardson led the way for the Lilywhites
with a hat-trick, Tom Denton, Danny Queeley and Dave
Young the other scorers. The only blemish for
Mossley was the sending off of Kyle McGonigle in the
2nd half.
Glossop kept their play-off hopes alive in the
North West Counties Premier League thanks to an
equaliser from Kelvin Lugsden and an 85th
minute penalty save by goalkeeper Ben Proctor to
give the 6th placed Hillmen a 1-1 draw at
5th placed Runcorn Linnets. Glossop must
now win their remaining 2 matches and rely on a slip
up by today's opponents to make the playoffs.
Dukinfield Town are facing relegation from the
Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Premier
League as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to
AVRO. A late goal by Morrison was the only
consolation for Dukinfield.
