Galatasaray 3 Fenerbahce 2
March 21st 2006

Galatasaray beat rivals Fenerbahce 3-2 in
front of the home fans at Ali Sami Yen tonight in the second leg match of their
Turkish Cup quarterfinal. The win, while a great morale boost for the Lions who
are chasing down Fener in a tight league race, was not enough as the Yellow
Canaries advanced to the next round on the away goal rule. (They had beaten
GS 2-1 in the first leg at Sukru Saracoglu).
The match got off to a bad start for the Lions as Fener's Tuncay scored
after only 8 minutes, but Ayhan Akman answered in the 12th, keeping the
home side in the game. Necati scored in the 35th minute to take the lead,
but Stephen Appiah equalized for Fener in the 72nd. Finally, in the 76th,
Galatasaray's veteran striker Hakan Sukur found the net to give the Lions
a win. But the win was bittersweet as the current Cup holders, who had
beaten Fener 5-1 in last year's final, were knocked out of the competition.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE COCK-UP !

Galatasaray says an early goodbye to UEFA cup, after having been eliminated by an unknown arctic team : Tromso. We, Galatasaray fans, feel sorry to have ashamed our country, and ask immediatly our board, who totally fucked the club since its arrival in 2002, to get out here fast !

After having lost 1-0 in Tromso, Cimbom's mission was to win with a difference of 2 goals, which didn't seem difficult, as Tromso is playing very bad in their league and is already an unknown team. Everyone was waiting for a big difference, a score like 5-0 or 6-0 but it was Tromso who scored the first goal in 34th minute.

Galatasaray had to score 3 goals then to qualify as Tromso played with 11 players in defence to keep this fantastic result for them. Galatasaray missed many occasions. Galatasaray fans were still believing their team could qualify and produced a very hot atmosphere, that you can't find anywhere else in the world. It was the hell... But only Hakan Sükür managed to equalize but it was not sufficient and what seemed impossible happened : Tromso eliminated Galatasaray.

In 1999/2000, Galatasaray won UEFA Cup against Arsenal. In 2000/2001, Galatasaray won Supercup against Real Madrid and reached the quarter finals of Champions League, eliminated by Real Madrid. in 2001/2002, Galatasaray didn't miss the Quarter-finals of Champions League by much, only in the last game of 2nd phase agasnt Barcelona : this season Galatasaray also celebrated their 15th home title. Then a person, who was going to be the worst ever president of Galatasaray, was elected, Özhan Canaydin and everything changed... In 2002/2003, Galatasaray was eliminated in first round of Champions League, finishing last of an easy group with Lokomotiv Moscow, Bruges... In 2003/2004, Galatasaray finished 3rd of the group and was eliminated in 1/16 finals of UEFA cup by Villarreal. Galatasaray was absent of European cups. And this year, Tromso eliminate us. As we can see, the biggest responsibility in Galatasaray's today's situation is the board who didn't reduce any debt since 2002, and made us lose our status of big club.

We want specially thank the 2 teams who reprezented Turkey well this week : Fenerbahçe, who humiliated PSV Eindhoven 3-0, and Besiktas who qualified for next round winning in Malmö 4-1, and present our excuses to the whole country again...
