On this page I just wish to post a few images as I dip my toe into a new hobby (as if I needed another one) the wonderful world of photography. All the images on this page were taken using these two camera's.    The Canon C10 was  my first digital camera bought in 2000. At the time it  met  all  my expectations and I still use  it for  certain projects although at  1.3mp it  is fast  reaching retirement age.  My Fuji Finepix S7000 is  another rung or two  up the ladder  with 6.1mp and the facility to interpolate to over 12mp.   The  optical zoom is also very significant when it comes to accurate distance shots. So as I learn to use this  fine piece of equipment the images should hopefully improve a great deal.

This is a picture which I recently constructed in Photoshop CS for my friends Julie and Ron Shah of Sujil their eldest son in traditional dress. The picture of Sujil is original but not the background.

My fist attempt with my new Fuji S7000 was a shot of Blackpool beach taken in front of Hackett's Hotel. The couple in the centre of the picture are quite clear and the sea for once is a good shade of Blue, thanks to Photoshop.

This picture was taken on a dull day using the auto mode but still turned into a very clean picture. The farmhouse is tucked away in the hills near Chinley Head in the Peak District.

A sporting picture taken while the action was at the other end. A reduction in the grass area at the bottom would improve this pictures focal point.  16/04/05 at Hyde United

A break in the miserable winter weather gave me the opportunity to get a few pics near where I was working. This one pleased me because I used my Fuji's optical zoom to good effect. I do like country scenes.

This picture was taken using my Canon C10. On a bright February afternoon in Sidi Bou Said - Tunisia. The distinct contrasting colours make the shot sharp and clear. Not bad for a 1.3mp pic

Some of the most pleasing images are the spur of the moment shots like this one, shot through my window screen while driving to work - using my C10.....  The scene is on the Whaley Bridge to Macclesfield road just after the Potts Shrigley turn off . A Glass of Turkish Efes beer and your supper swimming in front of you,  what more could you ask for.  I'm glad I took this shot and not the one of the chef with his net removing my supper from it's serene surroundings.  1.7meg picture taken with Fuji s7000

Taken with my Fuji at the waterfall just outside Antalya, Turkey this image was only possible by taking a boat trip. Suitably dosed up with "sealegs" I was more than a little chuffed with the result. I am discovering just how difficult it is to find interesting and unusual subjects, this being one of the most important parts of photography in my very amateur opinion.       1.7meg picture

Northern folk are brought up on trips to Blackpool, young or old it has something for everybody. So on my trip there during June 2005 I spent some time sharing my brothers passion for trams. Not really my thing but taking pictures of them is quite good fun because they are so accessible. I took this one with my Fuji using a UV filter and hood.  Quite a good image except for the side of the tram being too light. I reduced the image to 1024x768 med quality jpg. I've never attempted a close up shot before so this one came out as a complete surprise. I used the macro setting and juggled about with the shutter speed and exposure settings on my Fuji and seem to have come out with a result.  The bee was not hanging about so I had to be on the ball and keep a steady hand. I've reduced the image size. Back to Blackpool in July and a nice composition using an empty beach but for the subjects. This is not easy in the middle of the summer season and to be honest the lad leading the donkeys looks as if he for one has just about had enough.  I've not altered the image in any way other than resizing to 1024 x 768 High Quality.  Fuji S7000
My only problem with this image is the lack of focus in the distance, something I have to learn soon. Another big fault is the lack of a decent sky which could be put right easily in Photoshop. The picture was taken in Aug 05 on a pleasant day at the Errwood reservoir in the Goyt Valley, Derbyshire.  1024x768 med quality jpg. On a stormy summers evening  as I was talking with my wife Janice in our kitchen at home, I glanced out of the window to see this superb cloud formation. My camera was on auto so I just pointed and shot this tasty sunset picture.  1024 x 768 high quality web reduced in CS As the sun went down over Kings Sombourne, Wiltshire I thought this would be an ideal time to take a picture of my good friend Thierry Cabanne's house which I had just finished painting. A lovely part of the country where subject matter is easily found.  Could have been improved by moving my car Format 1024x768 h.qlty jpeg

A miserable day for taking pictures but on a visit to Matlock, Derbyshire I had to get my camera out to get this image of an old goods truck.

A very nice image of the Bangkok Hilton taken by John Goodwin of New Mills on his newly acquired Canon EOS  350D. See next picture for a close up of the top of the Hilton for a health and safety issue. Yes it's a long way down for that guy if the wind picks up. Thailand is one of John's favourite destinations and he took his opportunity to capture this unusual image.  Nice one John
On our Nile Cruise in March 2006 I caught this sunset as we sailed North towards Luxor. Other than a filter I haven't done a lot to this picture other than resize it. Kom Ombo Temple on the Banks of the Nile a couple of days into April 2006. A few nights earlier there was an eclipse of the moon which brought many astronomers to the country. The Philae Temple at the lightshow was a good moment to capture the rich colours of the early evening. I just like the setting here, a magic moment.  April 2006
I spent quite a time trying to get a picture of this pesky little ladybird. Eventually I managed a half decent shot which would have been greatly improved with a tripod. This little chap appeared on the wall outside the window in a house that I was working at. Luckily I had my camera handy for a point and shoot. Another moment when my camera just happened to be at hand. I had to use my Tokina digital telephoto through a window and hand held to catch this one.
The tiny port of Poros on Cephalonia the famous Greek Island was the setting for this nice shot. The ferry to Ithaca make a nice contrast to the natural colours of the setting.
October 2007
One of the six most photographed beaches in the world Myrtos, Cephalonia. The beach scenes in Captain Correlli's Mandolin were shot here. October 2007 A  splash of colour on the tranquil waters between Cephalonia's capital Agastoli and the North West coast of the Island makes a really interesting image but lacks fore ground focal point.
Another shot of Myrtos beach, Cephalonia or to be more correct, 3 stitched together in Photoshop. A huge image, when finished it had to be shrunk down to a more manageable size to include it on this page. One of my favourite shots taken in Chatsworth House. The title is self explanatory. A nice border sets it off well.
